KIDS IN CRISIS – RELIEF IS A CLICK AWAY

A pandemic, job losses, and now increased gas prices add to the stress level of the food insecure. For kids, the stress of poor nutrition leads to health problems, cognitive issues, poor grades, aggression (hence the term “hangry”) and anxiety.

According to Brookings Institute, food insecurity increased 460% Pre – COVID-19, and although there has been some improvement, there is still a considerable number of children (1 in 6) at risk. With the end of the school year, there is the looming question: How will the students while in school receiving two free meals a day cope during the summer?

Ten year old Lucas counts on the food he receives; without it he is in danger of not having enough food to provide proper nutrition. Even though his mom serves leftovers and stretches what food they do have, Lucas thinks about whether they will have enough to eat. This is his crisis.

In the midst of crisis, there is a solution.
