Dear Frank,
It is common knowledge that a full tank renders better gas mileage and can impact performance. If this is true for an automobile, oh, say like a school bus; how much more so for the precious cargo riding these big yellow caravans.
So many things factor into a successful school year, but we can all agree that hunger is not one of them – it is an enemy to all things academic.
Studies find that poor nutrition and hunger have a negative impact on both cognitive ability and attitude. Teachers, as well as classmates, are some of the first to experience the domino effect of the “hangry”.
Feeding a child feeds the need and fills their “tank”, preparing them for better performance and participation in the classroom, which leads to a better learning experience. Relationship building can start off on the right foot for students when bellies are full of healthy choices and fueled by nutritious foods.
